HISTORY OF THE CHIEMGAUHOF LOCKING: FROM ARABLE FARMING TO ORGANIC FARMING
Chiemgauhof Locking was one of the first farms in the region to be used for agriculture. The beginnings of the family farm date back to the 8th century, as documented by stories. The farm was first mentioned in documents in the 12th century.
Since 2007, Florian Reiter has been running the farm in an animal-friendly and resource-conserving way – for the future of responsible farming and his children.
THE FAMILY: PASSIONATE FARMERS
Florian Reiter began producing pigs on the farm in 2009 with 2 Swabian-Hall piglets. A year later, he began cultivating and professionally marketing the dual-purpose “Les Bleues” pedigree chicken. Together with Christian Hetzenecker’s organic hatchery, the dual-purpose chicken initiative was launched to complement organic chicken farming in Germany.
As a family business, the family takes care of the grain cultivation and animal husbandry themselves. After slaughtering, the meat is cut up for sale by Florian Reiter, packaged and delivered personally to the partner farms as far as possible. The roosters on the pasture, the forest, the drinking troughs and the straw are still looked after by Florian’s father. Most visitors will know his mother from the farm store, where only the farm’s own products are sold.
